Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A gueridon is a circular occasional or centre table that originated in 17th-century France. During the French Restauration period (18141830), these tables were crafted with heavy architectural proportions, dark mahogany veneers, marble tops, and subtle gilt bronze decorative mounts.

These tables were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or rich flame mahogany veneers applied over oak carcass wood. Tops were frequently fitted with thick slabs of French marble, such as Saint Anne grey or white Carrara, and accented with chased gilt bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces feature thick timber veneers, hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joinery, and heavy, solid construction. The mounts on Restauration pieces are finely chased brass or ormolu, and the marble tops typically display hand-finished edges and age-appropriate wear on the underside.

A gueridon functions as an accent piece in a modern interior scheme. It can be positioned in a foyer or entryway as a central focal point, placed beside a sofa as a side table, or styled in an empty corner with modern ceramics or lamps to contrast historic and contemporary aesthetics.

Clean the marble surface using a soft cloth and pH-neutral stone cleaner, avoiding acidic substances that etch the stone. Dust the mahogany woodwork regularly along the grain, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually while protecting metal mounts from abrasive chemical cleaners.
