The Adam Revival style emerged in the late nineteenth century, taking inspiration from the Neoclassical architectural designs of Robert Adam. Key features include light oval frames, delicate ribbon bow crestings, bellflower swags, urn details, and refined symmetry.

These frames are typically constructed from a carved wooden base coated with gesso, a mixture of chalk and glue, which allows for intricate moulded details. Gold leaf is then applied over the gesso, often housing a bevelled glass mirror panel.

Authentic pieces display period-accurate construction techniques such as wire-backed composition ornament, joinery on the wooden backboard, and gentle wear or oxidisation on the gilding and silvering of the mirror glass.

Mount the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantelpiece to create a focal point. The metallic gilding contrasts effectively against bold modern paint colours or neutral backdrops.
