Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Adam Revival mirrors, popularised during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, draw inspiration from the 18th-century Neoclassical designs of architect Robert Adam. Key features include light, elegant proportions, oval frames, classical urn or amphora crestings, bellflower swags, and scrollwork tendrils.

These mirrors were typically crafted using a solid timber substrate, often pine or lime wood, shaped into the base frame. Elaborate detail work was sculpted using gessoa mixture of chalk and animal gluebefore genuine gold leaf was applied using water or oil gilding techniques.

Authentic pieces display signs of natural age, such as fine craquelure in the gesso surface, slight oxidisation or foxing to the silvered mirror glass, and hand-carving marks on the rear wooden backing. The weight of the frame and subtle wear along exposed gilded edges also indicate genuine age.

An Adam Revival mirror serves as a focal point when positioned above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or dining room sideboard. The warm gold gilding creates a balanced contrast against dark modern wall paints, such as navy or forest green, as well as muted neutral plaster finishes.

Giltwood frames should be dusted regularly using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or feather duster to prevent dust accumulation in delicate crevices. Never use liquid cleaners, damp cloths, or commercial polishes on gilded gesso, as moisture dissolves the water-soluble glue binder and damages the gold leaf.
