Fabulous Charpentier Foundry Gilt Ormolu Cased 8 Day French Striking Clock Made Specially For Thos Agnew & Sons.

This is a Fabulous 8 Day Bell Striking Mantle Clock.
 
The Ormolu Case with Grey Marble was made by the Charpentier Foundy and Specially made for Thomas Agnew & Sons. It is thought in Brian Loomes “Watchmakers and Clockmakers” book that the Manchester (Lancs) based Clockmakers (who established themselves in 1874 ) also established themselves in Paris Circa 1880 retailing Top Quality French Clocks.
 
The Enamel Dial is Signed “Thos Agnew & Sons” and the Back of the Dial is Engraved “Charpentier A Paris, Ft Pour Thos Agnew & Sons and Stamped S Marti & Cie (who made the Clock Movement) Medaille De Bronze. Cast with Fruit Foliage, Vitruvian & Other Freize Ornament, Surmounted by an Urn Finial over Finely Scrolled Flanks, on a Stepped Plinth & Button Feet.
 
The 8 Day Movement is in Good & Full Antique Working Condition Keeping Good Time & Striking the Hours and Half on a Crisp Clear Bell. This is a substantial clock weighing in at over 12Kg.
