Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian toilet mirror, also known as a swing or dressing mirror, is a free-standing mirror designed to sit on top of a chest of drawers or dressing table. The name derives from the French word toilette, referring to the process of dressing and personal grooming.

Victorian dressing mirrors were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often featuring hand-cut veneers. The mirror plates were made with silvered glass, held in place by turned wood uprights, wooden stretchers, and brass pivot screws.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually exhibit hand-turned posts, period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails or mortise and tenon joints, and slight irregularities in the glass back. Look for age-appropriate wear around the pivot screws and natural oxidisation on the mirror backing.

Place the mirror on a contemporary chest of drawers, sideboard, or vanity console to create a focal point. Pairing dark mahogany woodwork with neutral walls, minimalist ceramics, or modern lighting creates an engaging contrast between traditional and contemporary elements.

Dust the woodwork regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the grain to nourish the timber. Clean the glass carefully with a slightly damp cloth, avoiding chemical sprays near the wooden frame to prevent damage to the finish or mirror backing.
