Antique Jacobean Style Carved Oak Tea Trolley | on Castors

1900 - 1920
For Sale by ActFurniture LTD
Description

Antique early 20th century tea trolley in oak, made in the Jacobean style, a charming and well-made piece of good quality, showcasing traditional craftsmanship.

The trolley has two tiers, each with a raised moulded edge to keep cups, glasses and bottles safely in place, making it ideal as a tea trolley, drinks trolley or a handy serving piece.

The upper tier is framed by carved aprons with scrolling leaf-carved brackets to each side, and the corners are finished with square blocks and carved roundel tops. It stands on baluster-turned legs ending in block feet, fitted with castors so it moves easily from room to room.

The oak has a rich, dark colour and a lovely aged patina, with the grain showing nicely across the tops.

Presented in good condition. A very desirable and practical piece, perfect for a dining room, sitting room or kitchen.

This early 20th century tea trolley follows the Jacobean Revival style in solid oak with a rich, dark brown finish. The two-tier structure features a raised moulded edge on each shelf, scrolling leaf-carved spandrels beneath the upper tier, and square block corners finished with carved roundel tops. The uprights incorporate baluster-turned supports and block feet fitted with metal castors. The timber displays a visible grain pattern across the surfaces alongside traditional joinery pegs. The trolley measures 78 cm high, 68.5 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. Practical for entertaining and serving, the moveable unit functions effectively as a drinks trolley or a side table in a sitting room, dining room, or kitchen, and fits conveniently at the end of a sofa. The sturdy two-tier layout holds cups, glasses, and bottles securely during transport between rooms.

FAQs

Jacobean Revival furniture typically features dark oak construction, turned legs, and carved decorative accents inspired by seventeenth-century English design principles.

Traditional tea trolleys were constructed primarily from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, fitted with metal or rubber-tyred castors to facilitate movement.

Authentic pieces display traditional joinery techniques, age-appropriate wear and patina across the wood surface, and hand-carved detailing along aprons or supports.

It functions effectively as a mobile drinks cart, side table, or display unit, adding rich timber tones and historical texture to contemporary dining or living rooms.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a good quality beeswax polish periodically, and keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement.
