Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century country settle is constructed from elm and pine with a warm brown colour and original paintwork. The high backboard displays a multi-panelled arrangement, complemented by sweeping winged sides and shaped wooden arms. The base incorporates a dual hinged box seat with visible keyhole escutcheons on the front panels. Natural signs of age appear as surface wear, scuffs, and distressed paint patches across the wooden panels and lower seat edge. The practical proportions measure 170 cm wide, 170 cm high, and 46 cm deep. This rustic farmhouse piece suits placement in a hallway, kitchen, or living space as a traditional seating option.

The high-backed settle originated in medieval Europe and became commonplace in 17th and 18th-century homes, constructed with tall backs and enclosed sides specifically to shield sitters from cold draughts near hearths.

Settles were typically crafted using native hardwoods such as elm and oak, joined with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, wooden pegs, and fielded timber panels.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-planing, natural irregularity in timber dimensions, hand-forged iron hardware, and wear to footrails consistent with historic usage.

A settle serves as practical seating and storage within an entrance hall, boot room, or kitchen dining space, often paired with contemporary textiles or minimal artwork.

Keep timber away from direct heat sources and severe humidity fluctuations, dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying natural beeswax sparingly to maintain the patinated surface.
