Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XVI Revival furniture, popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, draws inspiration from classical antiquity. Key features include linear forms, fluted tapered legs, guilloche carving, ribbon motifs, and symmetrical proportions, often highlighted with water-gilded finishes.

These pieces typically feature carved wooden frames finished with gold leaf applied over a gesso ground. Tops frequently incorporate hand-woven textiles, such as Aubusson or needlepoint panels, fitted under protective glass.

Authentic period pieces exhibit subtle signs of age such as natural wear to the gilded surface, exposing underlying red or grey clay bole. Traditional joinery, hand-carved detailing, and genuine aged textiles beneath historic glass plates further indicate authentic era construction.

A carved giltwood low table acts as a decorative central accent when paired with contemporary neutral seating. Combining structured antique giltwood with modern linen sofas or wool rugs creates a balanced, layered interior aesthetic.

Clean giltwood frames using a soft, dry feather duster or microfiber cloth, avoiding water and chemical polish which degrade gold leaf. Ensure the glass protective top remains clean to prevent moisture from penetrating the underlying antique textile.
