Description:

This fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany coffee table features a central drawer, measures 2ft 11” wide, and dates from circa 1860; indeed, it remains in excellent condition throughout. Furthermore, craftsmen have adapted this small antique Victorian coffee table from a larger, taller table so that it would serve as a coffee table in height and size for modern living. Consequently, this small rectangular antique English coffee table now measures 2ft 11” wide by 1ft 6½” deep and 1ft 6½” tall. Additionally, the antique English Victorian coffee table comprises a moulded solid mahogany top above a straight frieze, which incorporates a single “blind” frieze drawer, constructed with hand-dovetailed joints. It is called a “blind” drawer because it has no visible handle; instead, a recess beneath the drawer bottom allows you to open it. Meanwhile, this antique Victorian living room table stands on four sturdy mahogany turned legs, decorated with ring turnings. Likewise, craftsmen built this antique rectangular mahogany table in the traditional manner, with mortice and tenon joints, so it remains solid in joint and ready to use.

This 19th century antique rectangular mahogany coffee table would look good in either a traditional or contemporary setting, as an occasional table or centre table that radiates timeless character and charm. Therefore, it would certainly grace any home or office, and it makes a great investment since it is extremely functional.

Condition Report:

This is a fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany low centre table, made from solid mahogany and featuring a central drawer; it measures 2ft 11” wide, dates from circa 1860, and remains in excellent condition. Craftsmen have adapted this antique solid mahogany coffee table from a larger, taller table in order for it to serve at coffee table height and size, for modern day living. Importantly, there are no breaks to the frame or legs, and the storage drawer is in good working order and closes flush to the frame. It does show nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges, but nothing significant considering its age. Please note, the dark area on the top of the table, near the edge is a natural wooden “knot” in the grain of the timber; it is not a stain. Since this small traditional coffee table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination. Overall, it is well constructed, solid in joint, and ready to use.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian furniture produced during the mid-to-late 19th century frequently features solid mahogany timber, hand-turned legs, rectangular tops, and substantial frieze construction suited for domestic living spaces.

Tables from this period were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or rich veneers, utilizing traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery along with hand-turned leg ornamentation.

Authentic pieces generally display signs of hand-crafted joinery, natural timber patination, minor shrinkage along wood grains, and period-correct turning details on the legs.

A low mahogany table serves as an ideal centrepiece in a modern living room, offering a rich wood contrast when positioned alongside contemporary upholstered sofas and textured rugs.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the timber finish, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
