Description

A pair of very fine quality late 19thcentury solid mahogany elbow chairs in the Chippendale manner, newly upholstered in an antique gold upholstery fabric with an embroidered design of winter trees.

The chairs are very comfortable indeed with well padded seats and supportive gently angled and shaped backs.

The frames are entirely original and robust with no worm and only minor superficial marks and dings consistent with age and careful use.

The skilled maker has employed numerous Chippendale devices including the pagoda shaped crest rail, the foliate and acanthus carvings to the lyre shaped pierced splat – all carved in the solid by hand and not applied.

Well shaped feet with channel carving and scrolls and with lovely arms carved with acanthus and with channelling and reeding to accentuate the S shaped supports.

A really beautiful pair of top quality parlour or bedroom chairs of large proportions and of impressive quality.
