Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian mahogany elbow chair is an open-armed seating piece produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), typically characterized by hand-carved wooden back splats, curved armrests for supporting the elbows, and solid timber construction.

These chairs were primarily crafted from Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its dense grain and deep reddish-brown tone, paired with traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved detailing, and upholstered drop-in or fixed seats.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carving along the splat and frame, natural patination on high-touch areas like armrests, period-appropriate timber weight, and secondary wood elements like pine or beech underneath the seat frame.

An antique elbow chair can function as an accent piece alongside a modern writing desk, within a hallway, or placed at the head of a dining table to create visual contrast against clean architectural lines.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the chair away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or fading.
