Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian carver armchair is a wooden chair with armrests produced during the reign of Kings George I through IV, typically crafted between 1714 and 1830. Designed originally to sit at the head or foot of a dining table, these chairs feature refined classical motifs, reeded frame details, and dense mahogany timbers.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used Cuban or West Indian mahogany due to its strength, tight grain, and rich colouration. Structural elements were assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, while drop-in or fixed seats were stuffed with natural materials such as horsehair.

Authentic pieces from around 1800 display hand-cut joinery, hand-sawn timber underside marks, and smooth wear patterns on stretchers and armrests. Original mahogany from this era exhibits a distinct weight and deep patination that synthetic or modern reproductions fail to replicate.

A single carver chair operates effectively as an accent seat in a hallway, bedroom, or paired with a modern desk in an office space. Mixing period mahogany seating with modern minimalist tables creates a balanced, layered aesthetic within contemporary rooms.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and timber fading. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the grain to preserve the timber and maintain its patination.
