We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In the 19th century, mahogany chests of drawers were characterised by solid construction, mahogany veneers, and standard proportions. They commonly featured turned wooden drawer knobs, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and shaped upstands or gallery backs.

Primary visible surfaces were crafted from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers, while secondary timber such as pine or oak was used for internal drawer linings and back panels. Iron screws and brass locks were standard functional components.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer sides, tool marks on unpolished reverse panels, and age-related shrinkage in timber sections. Natural colour variation across wood grain and original iron lock mechanisms also indicate authenticity.

A mahogany chest can be paired with contemporary artwork or structured ceramic vessels to create visual contrast. Positioning the timber against neutral wall colours allows the natural grain patterns to serve as a focal point in hallways, bedrooms, or reception spaces.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to maintain moisture balance. Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and radiators to reduce the risk of wood movement or veneer splitting.
