This large mid-century modern crystal vase is a clear lead glass piece dating to the 1960s. It takes the form of a broad, flared trumpet rim above a distinct geometric diamond-cut lower body. The clear material displays wheel-engraved floral motifs and stylised leaf work encircling the upper section, complemented by a star-cut base visible beneath the structure and fine horizontal line moulding dividing the two distinct decorative zones. Measuring 16.5cm in height with a 20.5cm bowl diameter and a 12.5cm foot, the item sits comfortably as a decorative accent piece. Placed within a modern interior, the glass vessel functions well on a sideboard top in a living area or dining room to display fresh seasonal stems or simply catch ambient light through its faceted lower panels. The English country house aesthetic suits traditional sideboards, polished wooden side tables, or open shelving displays where transparent reflective surfaces add brightness to surrounding decor.

Mid-20th-century cut crystal glassware is characterised by deep wheel-cut geometric patterns, such as diamonds or cross-hatching, often combined with hand-engraved floral or foliate motifs executed on high-lead glass.

Craftsmen blew molten lead glass into shape forms, cooled the blank piece, and then used rotating stone or copper wheels to cut geometric facets and engrave surface patterns into the glass body.

Authentic lead crystal exhibits a high refractive index that creates rainbow light dispersion, produces a prolonged ringing tone when tapped gently, and possesses noticeable physical weight relative to standard soda-lime glass.

Position a flared crystal vase on a sideboard or dining table filled with foliage or long-stemmed flowers, or display it unadorned near a natural light source to maximize light refraction.

Wash cut crystal by hand in lukewarm water using a mild dish detergent and a soft cloth, avoiding automated dishwashers which cause surface clouding and thermal shock.
