Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late Georgian and Regency periods, a bowfront chest features a gently curved convex front facade designed to soften room angles while providing spacious storage, typically constructed with two short upper drawers above three long lower drawers.

Primary surfaces were crafted using highly figured flame mahogany veneers over solid mahogany or oak frameworks, while interior drawer linings were commonly constructed from secondary timbers like pine or oak with hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic period chests exhibit uneven hand-sawn drawer bottoms, hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-carved turned wood or brass hardware, and genuine signs of age such as slight contraction cracks or patinated finish wear.

Integrate the warm mahogany tones by pairing the chest with neutral linen upholstery, contemporary abstract artwork overhead, and modern brass lighting to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist design.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying high-grade beeswax twice annually along the grain, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent drying or veneer movement.
