Ritas Bazaar has dated this Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre Bowl to the Edwardian era.

The exterior displays a particularly attractive mottled green lustre enriched with emerald, olive and violet tones. Gilded butterflies are scattered across the surface, while the rim and foot are highlighted with Greek Key ornament in gold.

The interior is finished in luminous Mother-of-Pearl Lustre and centred by a finely painted exotic bird amongst stylised foliage. The original mark and pattern number have largely worn away. The decoration suggests an association with pattern Z4831, although minor variations from the catalogue description are present, a recognised feature within Fairyland Lustre production.

Daisy Makeig-Jones helped elevate Wedgwood to international prominence through her innovative lustre designs, and Fairyland Lustre remains one of the most desirable ranges produced by the factory. An attractive cabinet-sized example combining excellent colour, strong gilding and outstanding preservation.
