P0172 Very attractive antique gold leaf wall mirror of versatile form, it can be hung horizontally or vertically, having replacement glass in good condition in carved, moulded and gilded frame with floral decorated corners. No missing elements, no woodworm, original gold leaf gilded finish - not spray paint. This antique has been fitted with four hanging brackets and is ready to place at home. This 19th century mirror came to us in good condition, it has been very well looked after over the years. The is oozing elegance and it would bring sophistication and light to any room traditional and contemporary. c1880

A giltwood wall mirror consists of a wooden frame coated with fine gold leaf applied over a gesso base, a decorative technique widely refined across Europe during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Traditional frames are constructed from carved timber, layered with chalk-based gesso ground, coated with red or yellow bole clay, and finished with burnished gold leaf.
