Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver wine coolers, also known as ice pails, gained prominence in aristocratic dining rooms during the late 18th and 19th centuries. They were designed to hold crushed ice or cold water around a bottle of champagne or wine to maintain its temperature at the dining table.

During the 19th century, wine coolers were primarily crafted from solid sterling silver, Old Sheffield plate, or electroplated base metals such as nickel silver or copper. Many feature cast brass or lead components beneath the plating for structural weight and handles.

Authentic period pieces typically feature heavy construction, separate internal removable drop-in liners, and makers marks or electroplate stamps on the base or rim. Look for signs of natural wear such as copper showing through high points on Sheffield plate, hand-engraved crests, and cast acanthus or gadrooned detailing.

A pair of silver wine coolers can be displayed symmetrically on a dining sideboard, dressed as floral planters for formal greenery, or utilised as functional barware during entertaining.

Clean silver-plated items using a soft cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish specially formulated for electroplate. Avoid harsh chemicals, wire sponges, and dishwashers, ensuring the metal is dried completely after washing to prevent water spotting and oxidisation.
