Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The French Animalier movement emerged in the nineteenth century, focusing on naturalistic and anatomically precise depictions of animals. Sculptors in this genre captured dynamic motion, fluid form, and intricate texture, particularly through equestrian and sporting subjects.

Most bronzes from this era were produced using either the lost-wax casting technique or sand casting. The metal pieces were subsequently hand-chased to refine surface detail and treated with chemical patinas to produce rich, dark tones.

Authentic period bronzes display sharp, hand-chased surface details, foundry stamps, or cast signatures. They possess substantial weight, appropriate age-related wear to high points, and complex chemical patination rather than surface paint.

Place the sculpture as a focal point on a dark wooden sideboard, mantelpiece, or desk to create grounded architectural contrast. Pair it with clean-lined contemporary artwork or modern lighting to balance historical character with sleek aesthetics.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry bristle brush or lint-free cloth. To preserve the protective patina, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually and buff gently, avoiding liquid polishes or abrasive cleansers.
