Description

The 'engsi' was hung at the entrance of the Turkmen yurt, facing inwards and represented symbolically, the gateway to Paradise. The two lower 'elems' or panels represented the sky-door and the cross design creating four panels, symbolised the four gardens of Paradise.

This beautiful engsi was made by the Karadashli Turkmen around the mid 19th century and is in very good overall condition.

Size: 1.80m x 1.29m (5' 11" x 4' 3").
