Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian blue and white transferware refers to earthenware ceramics decorated using a specialized copper-plate printing process developed in England during the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Engraved designs were printed onto tissue paper and applied directly onto unglazed ceramic bodies prior to glazing and final firing.

These platters were constructed from durable earthenware or ironstone pottery sealed beneath a clear lead glaze. The blue designs were produced using cobalt oxide pigment, which remained stable under high kiln temperatures without running or fading.

Authentic pieces frequently display subtle manufacturing traits such as glaze crazing, transfer seam alignments, and kiln stilt marks on the reverse. Many nineteenth-century examples feature impressed maker marks, printed pattern names, or registry stamps on the underside.

Displaying platters vertically on stands along a sideboard or mounting them in wall arrangements adds classic pattern to contemporary dining spaces and kitchens. They also serve effectively as decorative trays for central tables or dressers.

Wash platters by hand using mild liquid detergent and warm water, avoiding harsh scouring pads or dishwashers. Prolonged immersion in water should be avoided to prevent moisture from absorbing into fine glaze crazing, which can cause discolouration.
