This beautiful LARGE MINTON WELL & TREE SERVING PLATTER bears the impressed MINTON date cipher for 1852 and the impressed IMPROVED STONE mark and the initials BB (Best Body).

The platter is bold and colourful and displays very well.

The condition is good with no cracks, chips or restoration.

A well and tree serving platter is an oval ceramic or metal dining dish designed with tree-like drainage channels that slope into a deep reservoir. Popularised in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, this design collects meat juices during carving for easy serving.

Victorian serving platters were predominantly crafted from durable earthenware, ironstone, or porcelain. They were decorated using transfer-printing techniques, hand-applied enamel colours, and gilded scrollwork before being fired with a clear protective glaze.
