Kazak Rug, Caucasus, Dated 1936, 2.24m X 1.48m

1920 - 1940
Description

Dated in two places to 1936, this smart rug has a striking geometric design with subtle warm colours. The three medallions on the rouge field contain further geometric ornaments while the rest of the field is decorated with scattered lozenges with latchhooks. Three beautiful main borders frame the field each with a variety of geometric patterns. The wool is soft and with a chunky deep pile. Recently cleaned in our workshop. It has survived in very good condition with only minor old restoration to the braided end and selvages. This is a very decorative and handsome Caucasian rug.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region and are recognised for their geometric patterns, primary colours, and double-knotted wool construction.

Traditionally, Kazak rugs feature hand-spun wool pile woven onto a wool foundation using natural plant and mineral dyes.

Authentic Kazak rugs display hand-knotting variations, wool-on-wool construction, abrash colour shifts, and characteristic geometric motifs or woven dates.

A Kazak rug serves as a focal point to ground modern furniture, add warmth to timber floorboards, or complement traditional leather upholstery.

Regular vacuuming using a suction-only setting preserves the pile, while prompt spot cleaning and professional hand-washing ensure longevity.
