Antique Douard Goliath Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Douard goliath pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which carries the brevet, or patent, number 7032. This relates to an 1893 patent for a new watch calibre, with the inventor and applicant listed as Amedee Douard. The movement is working nicely and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 70mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel with a rose gold edging to the inner edge of the bevel.

The thick glass lens is in good condition, just a few small marks, and a 4mm chip underneath the lens at the bottom.

The dial has its original pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is a faint hairline between 9 and 12.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Goliath pocket watches are oversized mechanical timepieces produced during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, typically measuring over two inches in diameter and designed for use either in the pocket or displayed in custom desk cases.

These timepieces were commonly constructed with nickel, silver-plated metal, or brass cases housing vitreous enamel dials, steel hands, and keyless-lever mechanical movements.

Authentic pieces feature fired vitreous enamel dials with crisp painted Roman or Arabic numerals, recessed subsidiary seconds dials, onion-shaped winding crowns, and period movement serial markings.

Position the timepiece on a dedicated brass or silver stand, or within a fitted leather desk case, placed on a desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece alongside decorative brass objects or books.

Store the timepiece in a dry environment to prevent oxidisation on steel components, avoid over-winding the mechanism, and consult a professional horologist for periodic movement servicing.
