Antique Silver Alliance Lever Pocket Watch, 1911

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver Alliance Lever pocket watch, 1911.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has three little “dings”.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1911 with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The front and sides of the case are in good condition, some unevenness to the hinged back.

The acrylic lens is in lovely condition (some white natural light reflection showing in the two front photos).

The signed dial is in lovely condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lever escapement pocket watch uses a mechanical mechanism developed in the 18th century to control the speed of the balance wheel, providing precise timekeeping in portable timepieces.

Edwardian pocket watches typically featured solid silver or silver-plated cases, white enamel dials, steel hands, and brass internal movement components.

Authentic pieces generally feature hallmark stamps on the inside of the case back indicating the silver purity, city of manufacture, and date letter corresponding to the era.

Pocket watches can be displayed on a glass dome stand, mounted in a shadow box frame, or rested on a desk using a dedicated pocket watch holder.

Wipe the exterior silver case gently with a microfibre silver polishing cloth, store the timepiece away from moisture, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every few years.
