They frequently incorporate classical motifs such as fluted columns, acanthus leaves, rosettes, and shell crests, often highlighted with gilding.

Frames were typically constructed from softwood carcases faced with carved timber or molded gesso. Finishes involved gold leaf gilding over a reddish bole ground, sometimes paired with dark ebonised accents, while the glass plate was silvered using a mercury process.
