A Regency triple plate overmantel mirror is a low, wide mirror designed to sit above a fireplace mantelpiece, dating from the British Regency period (18111820). It incorporates three individual mirror glass panels separated by decorative timber dividers within a gilded frame.

These mirrors were traditionally constructed using a softwood or oak core covered with sculpted gesso and finished with applied gold leaf. The mirror plates were created using mercury-gilded float glass set into the timber surround.

Authentic pieces feature backboards of hand-sawn softwood, authentic foxing or oxidisation on mercury glass panels, and signature Regency architectural motifs such as ball moulding, fluted side pilasters, and geometric frieze latticework.

Position the mirror centrally above a living room fireplace or mounted over a dining room console table to enhance architectural symmetry. The broad horizontal profile reflects natural light and creates visual depth across contemporary spaces.
