Regency overmantel mirrors originated in early nineteenth-century Britain, drawing heavy inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Key characteristics include low-profile horizontal proportions, giltwood frames, Neoclassical relief friezes, ball-draped cornices, and fluted pilasters flanking three glass panels.

These mirrors were constructed using pine or oak frames covered in sculpted gesso and finished with oil or water gilding. The mirror plates were made from mercury-silvered glass, and internal section dividers were often detailed with ebonised wood or gilt slips.
