Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo Revival emerged in the mid-nineteenth century, drawing inspiration from eighteenth-century French design. It is characterised by elaborate, asymmetrical crestings, acanthus leaf ornamentation, scrollwork, and naturalistic shell designs known as rocaille.

These mirrors were constructed using softwoods like pine or lime, carved with foundational contours. A mixture of chalk and glue called gesso was applied to build up detailed mouldings, which were subsequently hand-gilded using thin gold leaf and burnished.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved wood backing boards, subtle hairline cracking in the gesso along joinery lines, and natural wear or oxidisation on the gilded surface where red bole clay shows through.

Placing a gilded mirror above a clean-lined fireplace mantel creates a focal point through historical contrast. It can also be positioned above a modern console table or credenza to add architectural depth to minimalist spaces.

Dust gently with a soft feather duster or dry, soft brush to avoid lifting delicate gold leaf. Never use water, liquid glass cleaners, or household polishes, as moisture dissolves gesso and damages water gilding.
