Antique wine glass. Drawn trumpet bowl over an inverted cone and folded conical foot English c1740.

Rim dia: 6.8 cm.

Foot dia: 7.6 cm.

Weight: 200 grams.

Condition: Very good. A good quality well made glass.

Georgian glassware from the mid-eighteenth century is characterised by hand-blown lead glass construction, heavy conical feet, and transitional stem styles moving from heavy balusters to drawn or plain stems with decorative knops.

These vessels were crafted using lead crystal (historically termed flint glass), which contained lead oxide to increase clarity, weight, and refractive index when mouth-blown and hand-shaped.

Authentic period pieces usually feature a rough or polished pontil scar on the underside of the foot, subtle hand-blown striations or air bubbles within the glass, and natural wear patterns on the rim of the base.

Period glassware is best displayed inside illuminated glass cabinets, arranged along open shelving, or styled atop a dining sideboard to capture and reflect natural light.
