Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Rococo style mirrors from the 19th century draw inspiration from 18th-century Louis XV designs, featuring fluid curves, intricate scrollwork, asymmetrical balance, and naturalistic motifs such as acanthus leaves and shell crests.

These mirrors were constructed from hand-carved softwoods or timber with applied composition work, layered with gesso, coated in red or yellow bole clay, and finished with thin sheets of genuine gold leaf.

Authentic period frames feature hand-carved backboards, signs of natural wear where the underlying red bole shows through the gilding, and minor hand-carving irregularities rather than uniform modern machine moulding.

An ornate giltwood mirror serves as a focal point above a simple modern fireplace mantle, atop a sleek console table, or hung in a minimalist hallway to create contrast between historic detailing and clean contemporary lines.

Giltwood frames should be dusted gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or feather duster; water and chemical solvents must never be applied, as liquid dissolves water-gilded gesso bases.
