Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Rococo mirrors emerged in the eighteenth century under Louis XV and experienced significant revivals during the late nineteenth century. The style is characterised by asymmetrical curves, organic shell motifs known as rocaille, flowing acanthus leaves, and gilded finishes designed to capture and scatter candlelight.

These pieces were crafted using a solid wood substrateoften pine or oakcovered with moulded gesso plaster. Gold leaf was applied over a coloured clay bole base, while the reflective glass was silvered or mercury-backed.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-carved or moulded gesso detailing, visible joint construction on the rear timber backboards, natural wear to the gilding revealing underlying bole, and light silvering degradation or foxing on the original glass.

A Rococo mirror creates strong visual contrast when placed against clean, modern architectural lines or minimal wall finishes. Positioning the piece above a contemporary console table or resting it on the floor brings depth and period detail into a modern space.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth to prevent dirt accumulation in carved recesses. Avoid liquid cleaners, water, or chemical solvents on gilded surfaces, as moisture can dissolve animal glue or lift delicate gold leaf.
