In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A girandole mirror is an ornamental wall mirror featuring attached candle branches or sconces designed to reflect light throughout a room. Popularised in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these pieces combine decorative wood carving or metalwork with functional illumination.

Late nineteenth-century French girandoles were typically constructed from carved timber or molded composition over a wooden frame, finished with gold leaf gilding. The mirror plate was usually made of silvered glass, while candle nozzles and support arms were formed from cast brass or bronze.

Authentic Belle Epoque mirrors display evidence of genuine water gilding, often showing subtle wear where the red or grey clay bole underlayer shows through the gold leaf. The reverse typically features hand-cut backing boards, original iron mounting hardware, and period-correct glass exhibiting minor foxing or oxidisation.

A giltwood girandole works effectively as a focal point above a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or within an entryway. Pairing the warm metallic gilded finish against contemporary dark or neutral painted walls creates a striking visual contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Preserve giltwood by lightly dusting with a soft, dry feather duster or camel-hair brush to avoid flaking the gold leaf. Never use water, chemical liquid cleaners, or spray polish on gilded surfaces, as moisture will dissolve the gesso ground and damage the original finish.
