Description

A fine and substantial Schierholz & Sohn flower-encrusted porcelain centerpiece, Plaue an der Havel, Germany, circa 1885. The reticulated Rococo bowl with gilt handles stands on a scrolling base and twisted stem, densely decorated with applied roses and forget-me-nots. Each fragile bloom was modelled and painted by hand, showing the exceptional skill of the Plaue workshop. The survival of these delicate flowers in such quantity is extraordinary.

The interior carries a painted bouquet of forget-me-nots. Both blank cartouches on the base were intended for later dedications or crests, in keeping with Schierholz’s luxury presentation pieces. The underside is impressed 18/10, with faint evidence of a removed underglaze mark — a practice sometimes used by later dealers to market Schierholz wares as Meissen, given the very similar level of detailing.
