Georgian Mahogany Bowfront Corner Cupboard

18th century
Description

An Exceptional Quality Late 18th Century, Georgian Mahogany Hanging Corner Cupboard, Of Bowfronted Form, Having Satinwood Crossbanded And Inlaid Decoration To Panelled Doors, Enclosing Three Shelves.

Corner cupboards, particularly hanging ones, are of course a great solution to a room which is lacking storage and already has full walls. This is of course due to the gact they can be mounted in the corner and add a large amount more functional storage to a space which wouldn’t be in use otherwise. They also of course add real elegance and a slightly different dimension.

This is a particularly good, georgian 18th century corner cupboard due to the overall quality of construction and materials. It is constructed from lovely, well figured, rich mahogany timbers which have been very carefully selected and positioned into the elegant panelled door design. There is also attractive satinwood crossbanding to the doors which contrasts beautifully against the mahogany.

Overall the condition is very good, just a few old marks, scuffs, scatches and dents which are to be expected on a piece of furniture which has been well used of this age and all of these blend in perfectly well with the overall look of the piece. It also comes supplied with working lock and key.

As with all items which we list for sale this georgian corner cupboard has received a natural wax polish by our traditional antique furniture restorers before being advertised for sale.

Circa 1790.

Height 45.75in.

Width 30in. (This measurement is across the front of the cupboard)

Depth 21in. (This measurement is how far along a wall from the corner the cupboard would protrude)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bowfront corner cupboard is an 18th-century storage cabinet designed with a convex, curved facade and a right-angled back to fit flush into room corners.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often highlighted with boxwood, satinwood stringing, and brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-planed backboards, hand-cut dovetail joints, genuine surface patination, and period-correct hardware such as cast brass hinges.

Position the piece in an underutilised corner of a dining room, hallway, or study to add vertical interest, pairing the warm wood tones with muted paint palettes.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources.
