FAQs

Sarouk rugs originate from the village of Saruk and the surrounding Arak region in western Iran. Produced since the nineteenth century, these rugs gained international renown for their dense weaving techniques, durable wool pile, and distinctive medallion and floral designs.

Traditional Sarouk runners are hand-knotted using high-grade, lanolin-rich wool pile woven onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. Natural vegetable dyes were historically employed to produce deep blues, rich reds, and soft ivory tones.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical Persian knots, a thick, plush pile, and subtle variations in colour known as abrash due to hand-dyed wool batches. The underside shows distinct knot structure and natural hand-bound salvage edges.

A long runner adds warmth, texture, and historical contrast to narrow spaces such as entry hallways, corridors, or gallery spaces. It pairs seamlessly with both dark polished floorboards and modern pale hardwood flooring.
