Veramin Rug

1900 - 1920
Description

Veramin in northern Iran produces some very fine pieces which often show tribal influences. This long rug has a border which echoes Qashqai designs and a central field crammed with motifs of a Kurdish influence. Three large diamonds with a bright floral design run down the centre and are joined by smaller diamonds which are flanked by large stars at each end. I love the variety of floral designs that surround the diamonds and their contrast to the indigo field. This is a rug that has a lifetime of interest in it and one would always be noticing elements hitherto unseen. Therein lies the magic of a good rug.

Good condition with a few repairs and the ends have some loss but are stabilised.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Veramin rugs originate from the city of Veramin in northern Iran, known for producing finely knotted textiles featuring structured geometric patterns, repeated diamond medallions, or the traditional mina-khani motif.

These rugs are woven using hand-spun wool pile knotted onto a cotton or wool warp and weft foundation, coloured with dyes derived from natural plant and mineral sources.

Authentic pieces exhibit dense asymmetrical knotting, crisp geometric patterning visible clearly on the underside, and subtle colour variations known as abrash throughout the hand-dyed wool.

A long runner rug anchors narrow transitional areas such as hallways, entryways, or the space alongside a bed, introducing pattern and visual weight to timber or stone flooring.

Regular maintenance requires gentle vacuuming without a rotating beater bar, prompt spot cleaning with plain water, and periodic rotation to ensure even wear across the pile.
