Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region in Japan and was historically exported to Europe via the port of Imari. It is renowned for its distinct colour palette, combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron-red enamels and gold leaf embellishments.

Crafted from fine kaolin clay, Imari porcelain undergoes a multi-stage firing process. The primary blue decoration is applied under the glaze before the first high-temperature firing, followed by overglaze enamel painting and gilding fired at lower temperatures.

Authentic pieces feature slight asymmetrical variations due to hand-painting, visible spur marks on the underside from kiln firing, and a characteristic porcelain weight. Underglaze cobalt blue combined with dark iron-red and gilded details are key visual indicators.

Imari plates can be arranged as a curated wall gallery, displayed individually on acrylic or brass stands upon dark wood furniture, or integrated into modern shelving to provide contrast against neutral backdrops.

Clean gently using lukewarm water and mild wash liquid with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive materials, dishwashers, or soaking, as overglaze enamels and original gilding can degrade over time.
