Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region in Japan and was named after the port town of Imari from which it was shipped. Developed in the 17th century, it gained international popularity through trade with European merchants who prized its distinctive colour palette.

Traditional Imari ceramics are crafted from hard-paste porcelain clay. They are decorated using an underglaze cobalt blue application followed by high firing, after which overglaze iron-red enamels, additional pigments, and gold leaf highlights are applied before a second lower-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy porcelain bodies, subtle imperfections in the glaze, and underglaze blue brushwork visible on the underside. The presence of iron-red enamel, gilding, and traditional floral or geometric brocade patterns also helps distinguish period Imari ware.

These plates can be mounted on wall display racks to create a focal feature, arranged inside a glazed cabinet, or positioned on plate stands along a sideboard to add deep colours and historic textures to contemporary rooms.

Clean hand-painted porcelain gently using lukewarm water and mild soap with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chemicals, or dishwashers, as these will wear away overglaze enamels and gilded details over time.
