Imari porcelain refers to hard-paste ceramic wares produced in the Arita region of Japan and exported via the port of Imari. It is characterised by a distinct colour palette consisting of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron red, and gilding.

These ceramic pieces are crafted from high-grade kaolin clay and fired at high temperatures to form vitreous hard-paste porcelain. Primary motifs are painted in cobalt blue prior to glazing, followed by secondary enamel and gold leaf decorations applied in subsequent lower-temperature firings.
