Antique Derby Porcelain Figure Girl in Chair C.1790

Description

A rare Derby porcelain figure, c.1790, depicting a young girl seated in a finely detailed Louis XVI style chair. The workmanship is exceptionally fine, with remarkable attention to detail in both the modelling and painting. Her dress is richly decorated with floral motifs and gilt accents, and her necklace is composed of individually formed links, visible under magnification. The chair reflects the neoclassical taste of late 18th-century interiors in both England and France. The base is painted in the typical Derby palette with neoclassical ornament. The original factory mark was deliberately removed, likely due to export restrictions or commercial strategy. The underside features the classic wide flat ring base with a central recess, distinctive for Derby figures of this period. This example stands out for its superb quality, authenticity, and the rarity of surviving figures in such fine condition.

Condition:

Only a tiny area of gilt loss on the lower rim. Otherwise, outstanding condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration.
