Description

A small and delightfully rustic Victorian pine washstand featuring elegant, slender turned legs, a shaped backsplash shelf, a single drawer with small wooden knobs, and a lower shelf for added practicality. The piece has a warm, timeworn appeal and is structurally sound, though it would benefit from a touch of restoration.

Available in its current, as-found condition for £150.

Alternatively, I’d be happy to give it a thorough (caustic) clean to strip the old wax finish, carry out any necessary restoration, and apply a fresh wax polish. This fully restored option would be priced at £237.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Victorian pine washstand is a piece of nineteenth-century bedroom furniture designed to hold a basin, jug, and personal hygiene items before plumbed bathrooms became common.

They are traditionally constructed from solid Scots pine or deal, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers and turned wooden legs.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-sawn timber, historic tool marks, period fixings, and natural patination consistent with age and use.

An antique washstand can be repurposed as a hallway console, a bathroom vanity base, or a compact desk, adding rustic texture to contemporary spaces.

Maintain antique pine by dusting with a dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood, avoiding synthetic polishes and direct sunlight.
