Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III snap top table, also known as a tilt-top table, is an 18th-century English occasional table featuring a hinged mechanism that allows the tabletop to pivot from horizontal to vertical. Secured by a spring latch or brass catch, this design allowed the piece to be stored flat against a wall when not in use for serving tea or display.

These tables were typically crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its dense grain and rich tone. The construction features hand-turned central stems, hand-carved tripod legs connected via dovetail joints into a timber block, and hand-cut spindle or fretwork galleries around the rim.

Authentic period examples display hand-tool marks on the underside of the top and legs, original iron or brass catch hardware, and natural timber shrinkage over time, resulting in slightly oval tops rather than perfect circles or rectangles. Additional indicators include irregular hand-turned spindles and hand-carved detailing along the knees and feet.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa as an elegant drink surface, or set it in a room corner with the top tilted upward to highlight the carved mahogany grain and gallery detailing. Its compact footprint makes it ideal for smaller reading nooks or formal living spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timbers patina. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and air vents to prevent timber shrinkage, warping, or movement in the tilt mechanism.
