Martlesham Antiques is a family run business and has been trading since 1984. Located in Suffolk just outside Woodbridge, Martlesham Antiques is run from a spacious thatched cottage housing nine large showrooms with a vast adjacent car park.

Specialising in 18th and 19th Century furniture, together with creating custom hand-made furniture which is supplied to various interior designers, trade and the retail market. Every piece on the showroom floor is in excellent condition and ready to go straight into the buyers home or premises.

All of Martlesham Antiques furniture is hand polished by their own French polishers and restorers to a very high standard. We are also a member of LAPADA, the association of art and antiques.

A tripod table is a three-legged occasional table supported by a central turned pedestal, introduced during the Georgian period for tea, coffee, and wine service. Many examples feature a tilt-top or snap-table mechanism allowing the tabletop to fold vertically.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid dense timber such as dense Cuban mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring hand-lathe turned columns and hand-carved cabriole legs, assembled with wrought iron or brass tilt latches.

Authentic period pieces exhibit evidence of hand-planing on the underside, original brass or iron catches, hand-carved leg joints, and natural wood shrinkage which frequently causes perfectly round tops to become slightly oval across the grain.

Position the table beside a reading armchair, within a fireplace alcove, or in an unused corner to function as a compact occasional drinks surface or display stand for ceramic vessels.
