Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Charles II oak chest, dating from the English Restoration period (16601685), typically features heavy geometric moulding applied to the drawer fronts, panelled sides, and a split two-part construction to allow for easier movement through historic doorways.

These chests were built using native English oak joined with mortise and tenon framing secured by wooden pegs. The drawer linings were thick, usually joined with early dovetails or side-runner grooves, and topped with brass teardrop handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display irregular hand-planed surfaces, hand-cut joinery, wear along the internal drawer runners, original peg construction, and natural oxidisation of the oak in areas untouched by polishing.

Position the chest against a neutral backdrop to highlight the geometric panelling and patinated wood. Contrast the dark timber by pairing it with contemporary artwork, minimalist ceramic accessories, or modern lighting.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patination. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity changes to prevent the timber from shrinking or splitting.
