Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ninteenth-century Viennese enamel refers to luxury decorative objects produced in Vienna, Austria, characterised by delicate hand-painted enamel panels set within silver, bronze, or gilt-metal mounts. These items frequently depicted classical, mythological, or pastoral scenes inspired by Renaissance and Rococo art.

These cabinets typically feature hand-painted vitreous enamel on copper or silver plaques, supported by gilt-bronze or silver framing. Decorative elements often incorporate cast metal caryatids, columns, and sculptured figures, sometimes combined with ebonised wood structures.

Authentic pieces exhibit fine, smooth enamel painting without modern digital dot patterns, along with hand-chased gilt-bronze mounts showing natural patina. Look for hallmarks on silver elements or maker marks, as well as period construction methods such as hand-cut screws.

Display the cabinet as a standalone focal piece on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or within a glass display cabinet to showcase its detailed craftsmanship. Pairing it with minimalist contemporary furniture or neutral backdrops highlights its rich colour palette and intricate detailing.

Dust gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush or clean microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical cleaners or water that could damage micro-cracks in the enamel or strip gilding. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity to prevent metal tarnishing.
