Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A centre table is a substantial piece of freestanding furniture designed to occupy the middle of a room, drawing room, or entrance hall. During the 19th century, these tables frequently incorporated tilt-top mechanisms, allowing the tabletop to be stored vertically when extra floor space was required.

Victorian cabinetmakers predominantly utilised rich hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood. High-end pieces frequently featured decorative burr walnut veneers, carefully book-matched to highlight intricate grain patterns, supported by solid timber bases.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, solid brass castors, and original tilt-top latch mechanisms beneath the top. Examining the underside reveals period-correct joinery, natural timber shrinkage, and hand-cut veneers on solid wood substrates.

An antique centre table works well in a spacious foyer or beneath a central light fixture in a formal living area. Contrast the figured timber by pairing it with contemporary ceramic vessels or structured architectural floral arrangements.

Preserve the wood finish by dusting regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and damp environments to prevent veneer lifting or warping.
