Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Transferware refers to earthenware decorated with patterns applied via copper-plate printing, a technique developed in 18th-century England. During the Georgian period, Staffordshire potters produced extensive series depicting British, European, and American topographical views in rich cobalt blue tones.

These ceramics were typically crafted from pearlware or refined earthenware, coated with a lead glaze. The decorative patterns were printed using cobalt oxide pigments transferred from engraved copper plates onto tissue paper and pressed onto the unglazed clay body.

Authentic Georgian transferware often shows slight pattern misalignments, stippling marks, or seam joins where the printed tissue paper overlapped. The reverse side typically displays a makers mark, impressed backstamp, or pattern name, alongside characteristic glaze crazing and wear consistent with age.

Transferware plates are frequently arranged on plate stands, displayed inside glass cabinets, or hung in symmetrical wall groupings within dining rooms and kitchens. Combining varied blue and white patterns creates visual interest while maintaining a cohesive colour palette.

Antique transferware should be hand-washed in lukewarm water using mild dish detergent and dried immediately with a soft cloth. Dishwashers, abrasive sponges, and sudden temperature shifts should be avoided to prevent cracking, glaze crazing, or chemical deterioration.
