Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, card and games tables became essential accent pieces in fashionable drawing rooms. Crafted with highly figured burr walnut veneers, these tables featured swivel or fold-over tops designed to convert from compact side tables into larger gaming surfaces.

These pieces typically combine a solid hardwood frame, such as beech or pine, covered in decorative burr walnut or mahogany veneers. Features often include brass hinges, green baize playing surfaces, and hand-carved solid walnut legs and turned supports.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass flap hinges, and natural variations in the wood veneer grain. The underside of the frame usually shows hand-sawn timber and period construction techniques rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

Position the table closed against a wall as an entryway console or behind a sofa, topped with a table lamp and decorative ceramics. Alternatively, display it partially unfolded in an empty corner to highlight the figured veneer and interior surface.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the veneer from drying out or lifting.
