A lowboy is a small table with drawers, typically used as a dressing table or side table, which gained popularity during the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

These tables were traditionally crafted from native timbers such as oak, elm, and pine for secondary framing, frequently faced with fine veneers like figured walnut or mahogany.

Authenticity is assessed by examining construction methods, hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage, original brass hardware, and the presence of period tool marks.

A lowboy can function effectively as an entryway console, a compact desk, or an accent piece beneath a mirror in a living space.

Preservation requires maintaining stable humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood finish.
